This 1935 Epiphone Deluxe represents one of the final 16" versions of the model, as this was the final year of the Deluxe in that size before it moved up to 17 3/8" and the final year for the checkerboard/rope binding. This version is highly sought after and they do not come up for sale very often. They have remarkable punch and clarity, exceling at chord work in a band setting. This guitar is no exception in that regard, but also has a beautiful tone for solo work/chord melody. The guitar plays beautifully with all notes ringing out clearly. The bridge has room for adjustment either up or down, as the player prefers.
This one has an old, well-done refinish with a particularly beautifully done sunburst fade. The back of the headstock has its original overly, but the front was redone at some point in the guitar's life. It now has a wooden overlay with a mother-of-pearl inlay. The tailpiece is a full archtop version of the Frequensator. There is a small, repaired crack in the top on the bass side, and a small, solid crack in the back, far to the treble side of the lower bout. There is a deep scratch in the side near the neck, as pictured, but no side cracks. The fingerboard appears to have been replaced, as I haven't seen an example from 1935 with cloud inlays.
The original hard shell case is included.
