This gorgeous 1946 Epiphone Emperor was at some point converted from an acoustic guitar into an electric at some point in its past.  From the look of the Centralab pots in it, I'm guessing that it happened sometime in the 1960s.  That was a time when a lot of people were adding floating DeArmond pickups to acoustic guitars that they already had.  It would appear that whoever owned this one wanted to go full Wes Montgomery with an installed humbucker in the neck position.  The guitar now has a humbucker sized Charlie Christian style pickup made by now retired Pete Biltoft (Vintage Vibe).

The guitar plays great with a neck that has a very soft V-shaped carve near the headstock that gradually becomes slightly more C-shaped as one moves up the neck.  The frets appear original and while they show some play wear, they have a lot of life left in them. As expected from Pete Biltoft, the pickup sounds fantastic and delivers a great single coil tone with very little noise, certainly much less than most original CC pickups do.  Pete's expertise at winding allows the pickup to capture a lot of the CC vibe though, even without the large bar magnets of the originals.

The guitar is in overall excellent condition with little wear to the all original finish.  The bridge, while completely original shows stain applied to the showing surfaces to match the color of the saddle.  The bridge bases of blonde Epiphones at the time used hardwoods that more closely matched the color of the spruce tops, giving the bridges assemblies a two tone appearance.  Apparently an owner decided that they didn't care for this look and stained the bridge base of this one.  The originality is confirmed by the blonde color of the underside with the matching serial number stamped there.  The guitar also shows signs of having had a left handed conversion at one time with filled pickguard mounting holes seen on the bass side of the guitar.  The modified original pickguard is present, as are the orignal tuners and tailpiece.  The tailpiece shows no signs of cracking at the bend of the mounting bracket.  The parallel top braces were partially routed away for installation of the pickup, but additional supporting braces were professionally added to bridge those areas.
