This Gibson L-7N is one of 71 L-7s in natural finish shipped in 1949. The natural finish is much less common due to the need for higher grade woods. The sunburst finish was often used to hide imperfections closer to the rim of the top and back. This example shows a beautiful straight grained Sitka spruce top and solid maple back and sides with light blister/bubble figuring. The guitar is in remarkably clean, nearly all original condition, considering that it is over 75 years old. The only non-orignal part on the guitar is the replacement pickguard and mounting bracket (the original broken pickguard and corroded bracket are included). The tuners are the original, single line, single ring, patent applied for Kluson Deluxe units. The bridge is the original Brazilian rosewood one. The tailpiece is the original nickel plated one which shows wear to the plating, but is in excellent structural condition. The frets appear original and while they show some wear, the guitar plays beautifully. The finish is original and shows only some very light wear and very light checking. There is an added strap button in the heel of the neck. The back shows a small, repaired crack and an almost unnoticeable repaired back seam separation. With those minor repairs, the guitar is in excellent structural condition.
The guitar has the classic, punchy tone expected from a parallel-braced Gibson archtop from the golden era, making it superb for rhythm playing. It also does a great job for chord-melody playing. It's a nicely versatile archtop.
