This Gibson L-5 dates to 1953 (X prefix factory order number). It has been well-played in over the years and remains completely free of cracks. This guitar is made of beautiful, top-grade woods throughout and has the great, punchy and sweet tone that great Gibson archtops are known for. The playability is great with frets that are in great condition. The neck angle is perfect, and the bridge has room to adjust either up or down as the player prefers. The tuners, tailpiece, and truss rod cover all appear original. The bridge is an ebony replacement.
The finish shows wear through on the neck and at spots on the top and back. Some finish has flaked off on the sides, particularly on the treble side where the guitar rests on a sitting player's leg. A strap button has been added to the neck heel. There is an original white label underneath a orange label. Both labels are torn. Orange labels typically start in 1955, so I'm not sure why this one was added on top of the white one. It's possible that the guitar went back to Gibson at a later date, but I don't have further information.
