This 1965 Gibson L-48 represents the entry level Gibson acoustic archtop.  Despite this, these guitars can have a really nice sound, and this one certainly does.  With a mahogany top, the sound is certainly different than the usual spruce top guitars.  Its not quite as bold and punchy as spruce with less mid focus.  It's a nice variation for someone looking for something a little different than the common spruce top archtop.

While made in 1965, the year Gibson started with a narrow nut width as standard, this guitar does not suffer from that affliction, having a nut width  of 1.70 inches, just a hair over the standard 1 11/16".  The neck has a nice, rounded C-shape.   The guitar plays very well with frets that are in very nice condition.  The 15th through 17th frets some some evidence of filing, predominantly under the higher strings, presumably to compensate for a high spot.

The finish is in really great condition for a 60 year old guitar, maintaining most of its gloss.  It shows its age with a moderate amount of finish checking though.  Overall, the finish shows very little wear.  The rosewood bridge, Kluson Deluxe tuners, the tailpiece, and the truss rod cover all appear original.
