Here is a rare find! One of only 19 made in 1968, this L-5 CN is in amazing condition. The finish has some fine checking, but otherwise looks spectacular. The neck is highly flamed and the back has gorgeous figuring as well. It's worth noting that this guitar has one other special feature as well. The back is one solid carved piece of maple, not laminate.
The playability is smooth and fast with the elegant, slim 5-ply neck, and classic ebony fingerboard. The frets appear to be have been replaced, although I have seen the frets done just like this on custom Gibson orders, so they may be original. They are in excellent condition, with lots of life left in them.
The pickguard was replaced at some point and a Johnny Smith pickup with the traditional neck mount was added, along with an endpin jack. This also could have been done on custom order at the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo. I have no way to know for certain. The bridge appears to be a replacement.
The original hardshell case is included.
