This 1972 Gibson Les Paul Custom 1954 Reissue is from the first period of Gibson making reissue models.  While this means that it's not going to be exactly true to the original in every aspect, the most important features, the all mahogany body, mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, and the Alnico V and P90 pickup combination are there.

This guitar has had its original black finish removed and replaced with a simple oil finish which really allows the guitar to breathe.  It also revealed the beautiful one piece mahogany body and the one piece, lightly flamed mahogany neck.  The pickups are original and they sound fantastic.  The pots were replaced with some dating to the 1990s, but the capacitors appear to be original bumblebees.  The knobs are vintage-style tophat style reproductions.  The bridge and tailpiece appear to be later Gibson replacement parts.  The original waffle back tuners have been replaced with far superior Gibson branded Schaller tuners, and there are some holes that appear to be from another set of tuners that had been on the guitar at one time.  There are also some very small cracks at both of.the E tuner screw holes closest to the neck.  These are just superficial and the neck and headstock are otherwise completely free of breaks, cracks, or repairs.

The guitar was recently professionally refretted with jumbo fret wire, making this thing play like a dream.  The action is low and fast. All notes ring out clearly at all frets.  The P90 has all of the punch one hopes for and the alnico V sounds warm and vibrant.  This guitar just plays great and sounds amazing.  It is certain to bring a smile to the next owners face with the first notes hit.
