This 7-string electric archtop was made in 1973 for Bucky Pizzarelli by well-known luthier and fine tonewood distributor Carl Barney who made guitars for Mundell Lowe, Tony Lombardozzi, and Sal Salvador in addition to Pizzarelli. Barney was also the mentor of luthier Sean Lombardozzi (Tony Lombardozzi's son).
This guitar was used heavily by Bucky up until the time he became a Benedetto artist at which time he really only played the Benedetto 7-strings publicly. It was used in many recordings, including the album with Joe Venuti that is pictured. It can be heard in the YouTube video here.
The guitar sounds amazing and plays beautifully. The guitar sounds like it did back in the 1970s in the video. The custom pickup and the electronics (like all of the other parts) are all original to the guitar.
The guitar shows many areas of lacquer checking and there are a couple of small, stable appearing cracks in the spruce top around the treble side f-hole. There also appear to be a couple of cracks in the upper bout of the back appear stable, and do not appear to extend all of the way through the wood to the inside. The guitar is completely structurally stable and the braces are all tight.
