One of two beautiful Johnny Smith archtops that I currently have for sale. This one is in absolutely superb condition and is all original, except for the frets and possibly the pickguard. The replacement frets show virtually no wear and the replacement was expertly and professionally done. The wide, low frets that were original to the Johnny Smiths are actually more difficult to play for may people. If you prefer medium jumbo frets, this one is perfect for you. It plays like butter. If I didn't already have my own Johnny Smith, I would be keeping this one. This finish is fantastic with almost no defect or injuries, despite being over 40 years old! Exceptionally little of the gold finish has been lost for a guitar if this vintage. This one also has a beautiful wood insert in the tailpiece that holds the "Johnny Smith" plate. It is currently strung with 12 gauge flatwounds. It plays and sounds like a dream. There is no buzzing with these beautifully level frets. The bridge also has room to be lowered or raised according to the player's preference. There is no evidence of top sinking. It has the original wiring, including the 1/8" jack on the pickguard. The original hard shell case is included. It has a couple of spots of torn off tolex, but is in great functioning condition otherwise. The interior looks perfect and the latches function flawlessly.
