This Gibson Les Paul Custom has a two piece maple top. That’s somewhat unusual for an era in which most of the tops were made with three pieces. The natural finish shows that off well. Unfortunately, while almost all of the finish is original, the top was refinished in clear. Still it does show the top very well and appears to be professional work. According to Gibson, the top was originally finished in black cherry. The knobs do not appear to be original and the original Nashville bridge was replaced at some point with a real Gibson ABR-1. Everything else, tuners, pickups, electronics, etc., are all original.
This guitar has a straight neck and is in superb playing condition. The action is low and there is no buzzing. The notes ring out clear at all frets.
The original Bill Lawrence designed Gibson humbuckers were removed at some point, but the originals were put back in. These pickups were only used for a few years by Gibson, but I think that’s unfortunate. These pickups have great tone and are very versatile. I find the tone of these superior to Burstbuckers and the 490 series pickups.
The original hardshell case shows a few external nicks, but is in overall good condition. It’s structurally sound and all of the latches work.
This Les Paul has been thoroughly inspected and found to be in superb playing condition.
