This 1991 Gibson L-5 CES (from the "good wood" era) is a great playing guitar with the classic electric Gibson L-5 tone, delivered by the 57 Classic pickups. The guitar delivers Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell type sounds through the neck pickup. It sounds amazing with both pickups, and does some mean blues tones through the bridge pickup. It plays beautifully and the 1 3/4" nut width makes it super comfortable for those who like a slightly wider neck than the Gibson standard of 1 11/16".
The guitar has been played professionally, so it shows some wear and tear. The frets show some wear with some light divots under the B and E strings. There is still plenty of life left in the frets though and the playability is wonderful. There are absolutely no issues there.
The top is made of some beautifully cut and carved piece of fine-grained spruce. The back and sides are beautifully flamed maple, the back showing a unique pattern of figuring seen on at least a few archtops made in 1991, all clearly from the same tree, including a Johnny Smith currently in Japan. The body shows some light impressions in the back and there are light scratches and a few small finish dings here and there. All in all it's still in very good cosmetic condition.
