This Gibson ES-5 is the Custom Shop's reissue of the circa 1959 PAF loaded Switchmaster guitar. This one is done in highly flamed, laminated maple with a cherry finish. The pickups are the highly sought after, early version of the 57 Classic humbucker, one of my personal favorite Gibson pickups.
This guitar plays like a dream with low, fast action, making it an absolute killer electric archtop for the player who like to do fast runs, but is also excellent for those who like to do blusier stuff or classic rock 'n' roll. The frets are in excellent condition. The three pickup configuration with the Switchmaster 4-way switch gives lots of versatility. All three pickups on really results in a great, round sound with a surprising amount of clarity.
The finish is mostly in excellent condition, the body in particular. The neck does show some checking with some delamination of the clear coat on the headstock which is commonly seen with the lacquer used by Gibson during this era. The neck lacquer checking does not affect playability and can only be felt lightly.
