This 2001 Heritage Golden Eagle exemplifies what the former Gibson employees who undertook the creation of the Heritage Guitar Company excelled at. The playability is remarkably good. The action can be set very low for fast electric play with easy action. The fit and finish are very well done with solid construction that seems built to last.
The x-braced top is made of hand-carved spruce, while the carved back and solid sides are made of flamed maple. This is all complimented by the almond sunburst finish. The ebony fingerboard shows an inlay upgrade with the split block inlays usually seen on the Super Eagle. The bridge, maple pickguard, and tailpiece are all original. The locking tuners are drop in replacements with no modifications made to the headstock. They feature rosewood, Imperial-style buttons. The finish shows some playwear with a few dents in the top, as shown, and some light scuffing of the clear coat of the back.
The neck has a C-shaped carve and the frets show little wear with a bit of flattening of the lower 3 or 4 frets under the B string, but very little otherwise. As noted before, the guitar plays very easily with the action set very low. When set low like this the bridge is still not bottomed out. The floating humbucker has a very nice, clear tone. There is a single volume control mounted in the pickguard and this is all wired to an endpin jack. The action can be raised a bit to bring out the acoustic character which is well-balanced and especially nice for chord-melody work.
