This version of the Gibson ES-5 is the Custom Shop reissue of the original version of the ES-5, made starting in 1949, continuing through 1954. This version features a separate volume control for each P90 pickup in the lower bout and a master tone control on the upper horn.
This particular guitar was made during the tenure of James Hutchins as the head of Gibson Custom, a period well regarded for its high quality work. This guitar shows off that quality in being a beautifully playing instrument with a straight neck and great action. The frets are in excellent condition, showing very little wear, almost unnoticeable. The finish is also in very good condition with very little signs of wear. The only significant noticeable finish issue is some delamination of the clear coat on each side of the neck at the heel next the the fretboard. This can be seen, but not felt. The gold hardware also shows some wear of the plating. All in all, the guitar is in very good condition with great playabilty and great Gibson P90 tone.
