This 2005 variation of the Gibson Herb Ellis signature model may be the most heavily flamed example of an ES-165 we have seen.  Additionally, it has the less common deep cherry finish instead of the much more common sunburst.  While the initial version of the Herb Ellis model featured a single inset neck position 490R humbucker, the later versions changed to a floating mini-humbucker without poles.  This pickup looks like the Gibson BJB humbucker, but some claim that it is has different specs.  I can't say for sure, but what I do know is that it sounds great.
 
The guitar plays great and shows only minimal fretwear.  There is plenty of room to adjust at the bridge as the player desires.  Notes ring out clearly without fret buzz.  The guitar is resonant with great sustain.  There is enough acoustic volume for at home practice unplugged, but as expected, through an amp is where it really shines.  The neck has a comfortable C-shaped carve that feels great in the hand.
 
The guitar shows some finish checking and light surface scratches, but no chips or dents. The neck is straight and the truss rod works perfectly.  A strap button has been installed in the heel of the neck.
