Tom Ribbecke is widely regarded as one of the masters of modern American luthiery and well-known for his acoustic innovations and exceptional build quality.  The Monterey model stands as his model which exemplifies his top of the line traditional appearing acoustic archtop guitar. This example features a beautiful, hand-carved, x-braced, spruce top with a stunning silking pattern running throughout.  The back and sides are made of gorgeously flamed and grained maple, the back fully carved. The 3-ply neck features birdseye maple which is topped with an ebony fingerboard. Multiple other parts also feature dark ebony wood, including the tailpiece, bridge, pickguard, tuner buttons, and the headstock overlay. The electronics consist of a custom wound Bartolini floating pickup which is routed to Schatten controls mounted under the pickguard and from there to an endpin jack.

The guitar is in fabulous condition with frets that show no significant wear and finish that remains glossy throughout with only two very small, light dents that I found in the top finish. The guitar has a fairly wide neck with a nut width that is just over 1 3/4 inches.  This is balanced out by a comfortable C-shaped carve that is not too deep, giving the guitar wonderful playability.  All notes ring out clearly at all frets.  The acoustic sound has great depth and is very well balanced throughout all registers.  The Bartolini pickup delivers wonderful clarity.

The guitar comes with a TKL hardshell case that is in excellent condition.  All latches and hinges work.  Minimal wear is present at most, looking nearly new.
