This Figure Zero archtop was handmade by D'Arcy Blake in Brooklyn with a top carved from master grade Carpathian spruce and back and sides of German maple that had aged for over 20 years as part of Steve Andersen's stash of woods sold when he retired from archtop building. The top is X-braced. The one piece flamed maple neck is top with a Macassar ebony fingerboard. This wood is also used for the headstock overlay. This guitar was used for the last two years by D'Arcy as a showpiece and is now presented for purchase and is a great opportunity to get a near mint condition archtop made by one of the real up and coming members of the newer generation of archtop luthiers.
The guitar plays beautifully and has a magnificent acoustic tone with abundant volume on tap and great tonal color. There is great tonal balance as well, being very even across all registers. Mounted to the pickguard is the new full-size floating humbucker designed and made by Bill Comins. This pickup delivers the sort of aural satisfaction that I've only heard from some of the very best PAF style pickups. I'm really impressed with this pickup. It's one of the best floating pickups I've ever tried.
The guitar is in near mint condition with only some very light surface marks on the finish and minimal fret wear.
