This two owner 1949 Gibson L-5 Premier is almost certainly among the very last of the archtops given the Premier model name by Gibson and among the very last to have the script logo on the headstock as the standard logo. It has been played over its 75 years, but also remarkably well cared for. The original finish shows virtually no checking and I have only found one significant small dent in the top measuring approximately 1/32” which is shown in a closeup photo. There is some play wear to clear coat layer on the neck which is almost unnoticeable without a blacklight. The tailpiece plating shows very little wear to the plating. Non-original parts include a replaced pickguard bracket screw and the pickguard itself which actually has binding from the original guard.

On top of being in phenomenal condition it’s also a phenomenal player. If the next owner wanted to set it up as an electric guitar with a floating pickup, the action could be set very low. As an acoustic guitar it has one of the clearest and fullest voices I have heard from a 17” cutaway Gibson. If I were looking for this type of guitar, I would be keeping this one for myself without hesitation. This guitar is a top-tier archtop in every way.
